Can Guinea Pigs eat Broccoli?

can-guinea-pigs-eat-broccoliBroccoli is one of the easiest vegetables to grow, for me at least! Although it does need to be watered a lot to prevent it from flowering too early and producing teeny tiny buds. It is also from the cabbage family. So can guinea pigs eat broccoli?

Yes!

Although it is actually quite high in vitamin c and a it can cause digestive problems like bloating if consumed more then one to two times a week in moderate amounts.

Interesting. Good I came across this as I was worried about feeding any cabbage to mine. Are guineapigs able to eat any type of cabbage? We grow a lot of cauliflower.

Actually I didn’t even know what a guinea pig could eat normally since I don’t own one myself so that’s interesting. Brocoli is also of the healthiest vedgetable to eat in my opinion ! I do eat some everyday though I didn’t know brocoli could cause bloating if eaten often ! Does it only cause bloating to guinea pigs or to human also ?

      Hi
Well, anything eaten in large quantities would cause bloating in both! 🙂 If you ate a huge amount of broccoli you’d probably feel a bit sick too! But you’d have to eat a lot! Since guinea pigs are smaller, they can’t cope with large amounts of anything except grass and hay.
I know what you mean, before I got guinea pigs I used to think that they just ate carrots and pellets, I had no idea that there was a whole range of other foods they could eat too!
